Siyafundza Private School started as an English-medium Pre-school in 2005 in Mrs Makhubu’s residential place. As a hard-working and passionate person we believed she could make her dream of starting a preschool come true. Starting in the garage of her residential home that classroom birthed the ever growing primary school; from an enrollment of 4 learners to over 351 in 2020. From the first cohort of learners who sat for the EPC examination in 2013 to date Siyafundza shines nationally with high performing schools in the top 10 to 20. As a former parent in the school I am an awe of the work done by the Director and the teachers.
It has been interesting to journey with Siyafundza in her growth. My son was among the first 4 learners enrolled in 2004. He was quite a handful; so full of energy and mischief. The pre-school alone taught him how to work with other people, to be assertive and to socialise. He was never pushed to do homework, he loved everything about school. Then came my daughter in 2008. To quote her words she said “there was no bullying at all and the teachers were sweet, teaching you like they were teaching their own kids. We also got individual attention…” This is a mouthful for someone who joined public school for the first time to do Grade 8 and found a completely different world. Like with the boy, doing homework was never a problem. Today they are both pursuing courses of their choice in different tertiary institutions. And now, my granddaughter is there too, following in the family tradition. She is also doing quite well.
I have seen the Director ensuring that structures built are excellent, teaching and learning materials are made available for the provision of quality education, teachers receive in-service training, there is excellent staff recruitment and a very low staff turnove. Teacher Thoko Mvubu taught my daughter in 2008, Mr Gasseller has been principal since 2010 and Mr Hove was one of the first teachers of the primary school. This is a sure sign that when you join Siyafundza you are integrated into a family. It is no wonder the school produces excellent results! Looking at the new classrooms and hall under construction it shows that even parents are happy with the quality of education their children receive. Keep growing Siyafundza, the sky is the limit. If you run out of land, go higher up! We will be there to support you.
